Wireless switching and routers are my thing!

Cabling is one thing that is needed at all companies that have a computer. For those that have only one computer it almost certainly accesses the internet. Thus there will be a cable running from the PC to the carrier’s equipment cable or ADSL modem. This is by definition a very basic network. However there is several computers and at least one switch. Most people work at a location that has several large switches of which the most common brand is Cisco. The point is that all companies require at least some form of IT networking to operate.

Wireless is also very common. This allows laptops to use a network connection to access the network and move around. This also is used frequently in warehouse management software (WMS). The logic is that the forklifts can access software to manage where product should go in the warehouse without needing to slow down to do it. In this utilization the advantage is in having redundant network hardware. If any part of the system fails then the entire warehouse stops. Therefore many IT departments install double the equipment and wire everything to each device. The idea if something fails it doesn’t get sick so that the network can realize the issue and route without the other dead device. The caveat is that a downed device must be replaced before another failure happens despite no issues being visible.

Network Address Translation(NAT) is useful on today’s networks. The purpose is to simply transform one IP address to a different one. This is useful if the computers all are on a 10.x subnet but need to get to the internet thru gateways that do the NAT .

A print server can be very useful to the person who wants to print on a wireless network. The idea is that the print server lets the user print to the printer without cables. All printers must have this feature to get print requests directly from laptop without a cable.

Cisco based in CA United States of America in North America that manufactures enterprise class routing and switching components. OK they are the largest vendor of network devices in the world. They control more than half of the network hardware market world wide. Training with this is therefore quite common.
